About

Caroline Nowak is an award-winning Lighting Designer from Birmingham, Alabama. She is a dynamic collaborator and educator. She is currently in her final year pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Sharpless & Othmer Fellow at the University of Nebraska in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. Caroline graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a BA in Theatre Arts (’21).

She has received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Commendation of Excellence in Lighting Design for University of Nebraska Theatrix’s Love Song and the Award for Theatrical Excellence: Lighting Design from Birmingham-Southern College for her evocative design of 35MM: A Musical Exhibition.

During her time in Nebraska, she has designed productions with the Lied Center, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the Glen Korff School of Music, Benedictine College Theatre, Doane University Theatre, Nebraska Wesleyan University Theatre, and Lincoln Community Playhouse. Caroline has enjoyed an active freelance career as an assistant lighting designer and electrician at companies like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Bay Street Theatre, and Hangar Theatre.
